A Message from Your Care Team
Hospice focuses on comfort and quality of life for people living with a terminal illness. Rather than continuing treatments intended to cure the underlying condition, the care plan prioritizes pain relief, symptom management, emotional support, and the patient’s personal goals.
For many LaPlace families, hospice allows a loved one to remain in familiar surroundings near the people, routines, and belongings that matter most. Care may be provided in a private residence, nursing facility, assisted living community, or another place the patient considers home.
Every patient’s experience is different, which is why Anvoi develops an individualized plan around the person rather than relying on a standard approach. This commitment is part of The Anvoi Way, which recognizes that physical symptoms, emotional concerns, spiritual needs, and family circumstances all deserve thoughtful attention.
Families often begin considering hospice during or after a hospital stay. A physician may explain that an illness is no longer responding to treatment, repeated hospitalizations may become increasingly difficult, or the patient may decide that comfort at home is now the priority.
Anvoi helps families navigate the transition from hospital-based treatment to hospice care at home. Our team can coordinate with the patient’s existing healthcare providers, review current needs, and help arrange appropriate hospice services, medications, supplies, and equipment related to the terminal condition.
Patients in the River Parishes may begin this transition after receiving treatment at Ochsner Medical Complex – River Parishes in LaPlace, St. James Parish Hospital in Lutcher, or hospitals in Kenner and Metairie. Anvoi is an independent hospice provider, and references to these facilities do not imply a partnership or affiliation.
Families do not have to wait until the patient is in an immediate crisis to ask questions. Beginning the conversation earlier can provide more time to understand available support, prepare the home, and create a care plan that reflects the patient’s wishes.

Anvoi supports patients transitioning from hospitals and healthcare settings throughout the River Parishes and Greater New Orleans region. We also provide hospice services to eligible patients living in residential care communities.
Common points of transition may include:
Ochsner Medical Complex and River Parishes in LaPlace
St. James Parish Hospital in Lutcher
Hospitals and medical facilities in Kenner and Metairie
Nursing facilities in LaPlace, Reserve, Garyville, and nearby communities
Assisted living communities throughout St. John the Baptist Parish
Private residences across the River Parishes
Our team communicates with families and healthcare providers to help make the move into hospice as organized and comfortable as possible.
Anvoi provides coordinated hospice services based on each patient’s symptoms, condition, living environment, and personal priorities. The care plan can change as the patient’s needs change.
Hospice at home allows patients to receive comfort-focused care in familiar surroundings. The Anvoi team visits according to the individualized care plan while also teaching family caregivers how to recognize symptoms, use provided supplies, and respond to changes.
Home hospice does not require a patient to live in a private house. Care may also be provided in an apartment, nursing facility, assisted living community, or another qualifying residential setting.
Symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, nausea, anxiety, weakness, restlessness, and difficulty sleeping can become harder to manage as an illness progresses. Anvoi’s pain and symptom management services focus on improving comfort while reducing avoidable distress.
The care team regularly evaluates the patient’s condition and adjusts the plan when new symptoms appear or existing symptoms change. Families also receive guidance on what to observe and when to contact the hospice team.
Providing daily support for a seriously ill loved one can be physically and emotionally demanding. Respite care may provide temporary relief for the primary caregiver when a short break is necessary.
Respite care is arranged according to hospice eligibility requirements and the patient’s care plan. The goal is to help family caregivers rest, attend to personal responsibilities, and continue supporting their loved one without becoming overwhelmed.
Families often have medical, practical, emotional, and spiritual questions as a serious illness progresses. Anvoi’s end-of-life planning support helps patients and families discuss care preferences, prepare for expected changes, and make informed decisions.
These conversations are approached with sensitivity and respect. The patient’s values remain central throughout the planning process.
Anvoi provides access to nursing support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When a patient experiences an unexpected symptom, a sudden change, or another urgent concern related to the hospice diagnosis, the family can contact the hospice team for guidance.
Depending on the situation, the nurse may provide instructions over the phone, review medications, help the caregiver evaluate symptoms, or determine whether an in-person visit is appropriate. This support can help families respond calmly and avoid feeling alone when changes happen outside regular business hours.
Twenty-four-hour nurse availability is not the same as continuous bedside care. Routine hospice care generally involves scheduled visits, caregiver education, and on-call support, with additional levels of care considered when the patient’s condition and hospice guidelines require them.
Anvoi provides care for patients living with conditions that may include:
Families who are unsure whether their loved one qualifies can contact Anvoi for an eligibility review. Asking for an evaluation does not obligate the patient to begin hospice care.

There is rarely one single event that tells a family it is time to contact hospice. It may be appropriate to request a hospice evaluation when a loved one experiences:
A hospice evaluation considers the entire clinical picture. Even when the patient does not yet qualify, the conversation can help the family better understand what to watch for and when to request another assessment.
We genuinely care for our patients and their families. Each patient receives:

Eligible patients with Medicare Part A can generally receive hospice services related to the terminal illness through the Medicare hospice benefit. Covered services may include visits from the hospice team, medications associated with symptom relief, medical supplies, equipment, and certain additional levels of care.
Louisiana Medicaid may also provide hospice benefits for eligible patients, subject to program requirements and authorization. Many private insurance plans include hospice coverage as well, although benefits, networks, deductibles, and other terms can vary.
Veterans and their families may have additional care needs, personal experiences, and benefit questions. Through our commitment to honoring veterans, Anvoi approaches end-of-life care with respect for each veteran’s service, values, and individual story.

The Anvoi Way begins with understanding the patient as a person, not simply as a diagnosis. Our team listens to what matters most to the patient and family before creating a plan for comfort and support.
Some patients want to remain as alert and engaged as possible. Others may place the greatest priority on relief from difficult symptoms. Families may need practical education, emotional reassurance, spiritual support, or help understanding what changes to expect.
These needs can evolve throughout hospice care. Anvoi continues reviewing the plan so that support remains responsive to the patient’s condition, preferences, and goals.

Anvoi invites families to learn from the experiences of others who have trusted our team with a loved one’s care. Testimonials from LaPlace and the River Parishes can be added to this page as approved stories become available.
